Hi – welcome to my blog! I’m an architect who also happens to be a Walt Disney World (WDW) geek. I am obsessed with the architecture that helps make the magic happen, and I also love to plan trips to Disney World… like, I love the planning part… you can decide which one makes me a bigger geek.

Becoming a Disney Architecture Geek

While I visited Magic Kingdom once when I was a teenager, I honestly don’t remember much about that day. There are only a few memories I have: hearing the Walt Disney Railroad train whistle; seeing Space Mountain’s trains in the dark from the Wedway Peoplemover; feeling like my arms were going to get chopped off by the dinosaur bones on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad; Tinkerbell flying from Cinderella Castle during the fireworks. That’s about it.

It wasn’t until 2008 that my wife and I went back to Walt Disney World. And folks… I caught the bug! And it wasn’t because I am a Disney movie nut, or because the roller coasters are world-class (they’re not). I became obsessed with Disney World because of the architecture: the spaces that the buildings create, the style of the buildings themselves, and the details on the buildings. The immersive architecture of Disney World is the thing that transports you out of the real world – convinces you that you are truly somewhere else – someplace magical. The architecture of Disney World plays a huge role in making the magic happen, and I want to share an architect’s perspective on that magic making with YOU!

Obsessed with Planning

Throughout the last several years, I have planned return trips to Walt Disney World (and one trip to Disneyland Resort). And I have become obsessed with the planning of the trips. There is of course no one-size-fits-all planning method for a trip to Disney. But, the more you plan, the smoother things tend to go. Showing up without a plan at the front gate of Hollywood Studios is likely going to lead you to swear off any return trips to the Most Magical Place on Earth,

My planning obsession is something I’ll be sharing on this blog as well. Some of my tips will be for those allergic to planning entirely, and much will be aimed at the Type A super-planner. I will rate the level of planning geekery when I post. I am indebted to great planning sites like www.easywdw.com, www.touringplans.com, and disneytouristblog.com among others. You can learn a TON from those sites.

Expect occasional trip reports, ride reviews, and other random thoughts as the blog develops.

Who Is Scott?

I live with my wife and 2 kids in suburban Washington, DC, where I am a partner at an architecture firm. When I get to carve out free time, I enjoy learning to play guitar in my 40s, drinking craft beer, watching my DC area snake-bit sports teams, and serving my local church. I also am a fantasy football geek… but don’t have time for a separate blog.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you can stay a while.
